If you are in the loo, you can still remain connected to the world. At least that’s what the two upcoming toilets in the city will offer its users. These toilets, to be located next to the taxi stand in front of the suburban bus stand and at Gandhi Square, will be equipped with Wi-Fi and users will get free access to Internet
The toilets, to be built under IHUWASH (Innovation Hub for Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Solutions), a sustainable toilet project, will be completed by the end of this year
Unlike other toilets in the city, these WASH toilets promise to ensure water conservation. It will use minimum water but will have rainwater harvesting and recycling of waste water. They will also be equipped with censors. For the first time, breastfeeding centres will also become part of the WASH toilet complexes
Mysuru is one of the three cities chosen to implement the pilot project under WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) scheme. The city has been chosen along with Faridabad and Udaipur as it has excelled in maintaining cleanliness over the years and has the best underground drainage system
Mysuru city corporation health officer DG Nagaraj said that WASH toilets will be built under public-private partnership. The proposal has already been submitted to MCC and by the end of 2019, toilets will be constructed at the given location
Recently, the civic body had conducted an acceleratory workshop with various startup companies of the city. Out of the 15 technologies proposed, two have been chosen and they will be implemented at the WASH toilets. MCC also plans to build a WASH park in a few acres, he said
